Next generation Ford Transit previewed in Geneva [video]

Ford unveiled the Tourneo Custom Concept at the Geneva Motor Show last week. It previews the next generation Transit vehicle that the brand will be introducing to Europe and Asia only.

Like most panel vans the Tourneo Custom Concept is designed for different fuctions such as a people carrier with seating for eight, but when the seats are removed, it turns into a fully fledged commercial van for carrying cargo.

It features the company's SYNC voice-activated in-car connectivity system as well as state of the art driver assist systems and ECOnetic Technologies.

Ford plans to reveal the full production versions of the Transit before the end of this year, most likely at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover next September, where there will be a choice of two body styles: short and long-wheel-base.

The new 2.2-liter Duratorq TDCi diesel engine with Auto-Stop-Start technology will power the new panel van. There will be three-power levels available that generate between 100 PS (73 kW / 99 hp) and 155 PS (114 kW / 153 hp), all of which will be mated with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive system.
