The Hi-Cross Concept was unveiled in front of a packed media audience at the Geneva Motor Show today. It is described as a preview for a possible new design direction that will extend to the Juke, Qashqai and Murano portfolio, however it is believed to be directly previewing the new generation X-Trail SUV.

It features a hybrid powertrain that couples an electric motor with a 2.0-liter direct injection petrol unit that is said to offer performance specifications of a 2.5-liter engine. Albeit with the fuel economy and emissions figures of a much smaller unit.

It is also equipped with Nissan's XTRONIC continuously variable transmission and the drivetrain has also be developed to work with both front-wheel and four-wheel drive system.

The exterior styling begins with the V-shaped grille that seamlessly integrates the headlights into the design and the smooth styling lines add a feeling of finesse rather than agression. Inside the cabin, we see a very futurstic design that is dominated by an electronic touch-screen control system that lies in the central area of the dashboard. Unfortunately, most of this area is most likely just for show as no specific details have been released.
