Opel / Vauxhall CEO Karl-Friedrich Stracke has revealed that he wants several new flagships to build on the momentum created by the Insignia.

Speaking at a recent event, Stracke said "I believe we need a top of the line car to be positioned in the luxury segment. The Insignia car has done a great job of showing we can make premium-like products, but establishing ourselves properly in this territory will be a long journey."

He declined to go into specifics, but said the company would also benefit from having a new sports car and a large crossover to battle the BMW X5 / Mercedes M-Class. Interestingly, previous reports have suggested the latter model could be a rebadged version of the next-generation Buick Enclave.

If everything goes according to plan, the flagship models could be launched after the Junior / Allegra and Astra convertible hit the market in 2013.
