Today is the North American debut of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT. The US version is essentially a re-badged i30 for European markets and was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September last year.
The Elantra GT will battle against rivals such as the Ford Focus, Mazda3 and Volkswagen Golf. It features styling that draws on the brand's ‘Fluidic Sculpture' design language and mirrors the look its European i30 sibling.
Power is generated from an advanced 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that is mated to a six-speed automatic or manual transmission. It produces 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) which represents a best in class output of 82.2 horsepower per liter.
The kerb weight of 1262 kg (2,784 lbs) is the lowest in comparison to its competitors and results in fuel economy figures estimated at 28 mpg city, 39 mpg highway.
