A report by Autocar magazine has unearthed some early speculative specifications for the new Mercedes A-Class AMG which is currently under development.

The AMG division has drawn on the technical expertise of the High Performance Engine (HPE) division that is based in Brixworth, Northamptonshire. They are looking to bring out the best from AMG's turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine and if details are accurate, we could see it generate more than 335 bhp (250 kW / 340 PS).

The target figure has been placed by Ola Kallenius, head of AMG and former boss at HPE. He is looking for the new A25 AMG to exceed the power and performance of the Audi RS3 Sportback and BMW's forthcoming M135i hatch.

Following its debut in the A25 AMG, the new turbocharged 2.0-liter engine will also find its way to the larger CLC25 AMG and CLC25 Shooting Break AMG that are both scheduled to be released next year according to the source.
