Fiat is set to expand the lineup of the 500 series. The three-door hatch, Abarth and cabrio versions are now going to be joined by the 500L - the L stands for Large.

The five-door model is billed as an MPV that has the feel of a small SUV. It has ample seating for five people with dimensions measuring 414 cm long, 178 cm wide and 166 cm high. Power is provided by a choice of two petrol engines (TwinAir and 1.4-liter) and one diesel engine (turbocharged 1.3 MultiJet II).

It is described by Fiat as a further development of the 600 Multipla - a model that ended production way back in 1969. Lets hope this latest incarnation sees a little more success.

The Fiat 500L will be unveiled to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March before going on sale across Europe in the final quarter of 2012.
