The Land Rover Defender is a British icon, but that could soon be changing as a new report is indicating the next-generation model will be built in Pune, India.

The move will apparently reduce costs while putting production closer to markets where the model is still popular. Despite the change, some vehicles could be sent back to Europe for final assembly.

Regardless, the 2015 Defender could use an updated version of the T5 chassis which underpins the LR4 (Discovery) and Range Rover Sport. Styling will be heavily influenced by the DC100 concepts, but expect new lighting units, a revised grille and a more functional interior.
