Last year, Volkswagen was expected to become the world's largest automaker. That didn't happen and now the company is disputing GM's sales crown.
According to reports, Volkswagen is upset their production total didn't include sales from Scania and MAN. The company also thinks GM inflated their figures by including vehicles sold by Chinese partners SAIC and Wuling Motors.
All told, these changes could result in Volkswagen sales being listed at approximately 8.36 million units compared to GM's roughly 8.03 million. As it currently stands, GM sold 9.03 million vehicles in 2011, while VW only moved 8.16 million.
