On the occassion of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Toyota has revealed their "Vision of the Future" NS4 advanced plug-in hybrid concept.

Although quite focused on new technology, particularly in advanced powertrain and next generation connectivity, the NS4 concept is also a design concept signaling a new styling direction for Toyota.

Jim Lentz, president and chief executive officer of Toyota Motor Sales US (Inc.) said, "In this digital age, cars are becoming another spoke in the wheel of our electronic connectivity. NS4 demonstrates Toyota's take on the human connection to the car with technology that considers both emotional and rational relationships, person-to-car and car-to-society."

The NS4's plug-in hybrid (PIH) powertrain seeks to improve all aspects of PIH systems by reducing component size and weight. The result would be an improvement in overall fuel economy, acceleration and longer all-electric range, while maintaining a short charge time.

Stylistically, the NS4 is quite important to Toyota as it represents an earnest attempt to recapture a more emotional response from consumers. And this can clearly be seen with a dramatic front and rear styling articulated by a sleek roof line flowing into the lift back design.

Innovative technology features of the NS4 include a human-machine interface (HMI) infotainment system, side view cameras that provide a panoramic rear view, and special glass technologies which eliminate rain drops, prevent fog, provide 99 percent UV protection and the application of an Anti-solar film which improves electronic device functionality.
