The thought of a Toyota Prius racing in any kind of series is almost laughable, but recent reports suggest this could well be the case. However the standard model is going to need some serious tuning to get it up to race car standard.

The 2012 Prius facelift possesses a combined power output of 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS) between its 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor. Maybe with a little extra power it could go beyond its gravity defying performance figures, that is a 0-60 mph time of 9.8 seconds and a 112mph (180kph) top speed.

The GT300 class of the Super GT series is for models with under 300 hp, therefore we should expect the Prius GT300 to pump out far closer to this figure.

The rendering you see above is from the Japanese weekly megazine ??????? Auto Sport and should not be considered an official interpretation from Toyota.
