Tata has announced a series of upgrades for the 2012 Nano. Most notably, the car has an upgraded engine with 38 PS (28 kW / 37 hp) and 51 Nm (38 lb-ft) of torque.
The Tata Nano got off to an explosive start, but sales have been slow to materialize. To fix this, the company has announced a series of upgrades for the 2012 model year.
First and foremost, the car features a more powerful 624cc engine with 38 PS (28 kW / 37 hp) and 51 Nm (38 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 3 PS (2 kW / 3 hp) and 3 Nm (2 lb-ft). Despite the extra oomph, fuel-efficiency improves to 25.4 km/l (59.7 mpg US / 71.7 mpg UK / 3.9 L/100km).
On the handling front, the Nano has a revised suspension with a front anti-roll bar. There's also a new steering system and booster-assisted brakes are now standard on the entry-level model.
Elsewhere, the Nano has revised wheel caps, a throatier exhaust and an upgraded interior.
The 2012 Tata Nano is currently on sale and pricing starts at 1.40 lakhs ($2,670 / €1,980).
