Lexus has already unveiled the 2013 GS 450h, but a new report is indicating the company is developing an entry-level GS hybrid to battle the Audi A6 2.0 TDI and BMW 520d.

In an interview with Auto Express, Lexus GS deputy chief engineer Koji Sato said "We are working on a number of solutions to offer low CO2 emissions and these include a small hybrid."

Sato didn't mention specifics, but the magazine speculates the car will have a four-cylinder petrol engine and a small electric motor with a combined output of approximately 180 hp (134 kW / 182 PS).  This could enable the model to average 50 mpg imp (41.6 mpg US; 5.6 L/100km) while having CO2 emissions of 120 g/km.
