The North American Honda Civic has been heavily criticized for its familiar styling and cheap interior, so the company is working on an emergency facelift which could be unveiled as early as 2013.

Introduced over the summer, the Civic was quickly met with consumer indifference. To fix this, John Mendel - Honda's American executive vice president - has confirmed the model will be updated ahead of schedule.  

Speaking with Automotive News, Mendel said "I don't know how much we can do and how quickly [we can do it], but the comments of Consumer Reports and our customers have not gone unnoticed. We are appropriately energized."
