Our spy photographers have snapped several new pictures of the 2012 Mercedes GL.

Essentially a seven-seat M-Class, the crossover features a familiar design with a two-bar grille, prominent wheel arches and wraparound taillights.

Engine options remain a bit of a mystery, but choices will likely include a 258 PS (190 kW / 255 hp) 3.0-liter V6 diesel and a 4.7-liter V8 petrol with 408 PS (300 kW / 402 hp). At the top of the range there will also be a GL63 AMG with a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 engine that develops 525 PS (386 kW / 518 hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.

The redesigned GL-Class will likely be introduced sometime next year.
