The Toyota FT-86 is inching closer to production as our spy photographers have caught a prototype undergoing testing in Germany.

While the car is heavily camouflaged, we can see the production model will attempt to strike a balance between the original FT-86 concept and the aggressive FT-86 II concept.

The company has been quiet on specifics, but the rear-wheel drive car will be powered by a 2.0-liter boxer engine that develops approximately 200 hp (149 kW /203 PS). It will be paired to a six-speed manual transmission, but a six-speed automatic will be optional.

Set to be unveiled later this year, the FT-86 will be joined by the Scion FR-S and a yet to be named Subaru variant.
