Renault Captur will be basis for family of compact SUVs [video]

Renault is planning to take the Captur concept, which debuted at the Geneva auto show last month, to production and serve as the basis for a family of three compact SUVs.

According to Auto Express, the Captur will be the smallest SUV/crossover model in the Renault lineup while two other larger variants will be based on the same design.

All three models will share production platforms with Nissan.

The Captur will use the same underpinnings as the Nissan Juke while the larger crossover models will share a platform with the next-generation Nissan Qashqai. The largest of the Captur-styled vehicles will be similar in size to the Nissan X-Trail.

Engines expected in the range will be 1.6 and 1.8 liter units, including turbocharged variants of those two power plants featuring 128 bhp/130 PS and 158 bhp/160 PS, respectively. A 1.6 liter dCi diesel will also be available for the crop of SUVs.

The three new Renault SUVs will hope to recreate the success of Nissan's Juke and Qashqai models while replacing the disappointing Koleos.
