According to a recent report, the 2013 Opel Allegra will be a fun and fashionable runabout that targets the Fiat 500, Citroen DS3 and MINI Cooper.

Internally known as the Junior, the Allegra will slot beneath the Corsa but not replace the Agila which is being redesigned in 2014 as a low-cost competitor to the Ford Ka and Volkswagen Up! / Lupo.

While initial reports indicated the Allegra would resemble the Trixx concept, AutoExpress says the car will look like a baby Astra GTC with a dramatic front fascia, a contrasting roof, and LED-infused headlights. Inside, we can expect a stylish cabin with high quality materials that will be class competitive.

Engine options remain a bit of a mystery, but there is word of a 1.0-liter petrol which could offer a combined fuel consumption of 3.5 L/100km (80 mpg UK / 67 mpg US) and CO2 emissions of less than 100 g/km.

The Allegra is slated to be launched late next year with a base price of approximately £11,000 (€12,580).
