The Mitsubishi Evo might be the most recognizable model in the company's lineup, but a new report is indicating the high-performance sedan may be headed to the automotive graveyard.

In an interview with Autocar, Mitsubishi's global product director - Gayu Eusegi - stated the Evolution X would be the last Evo. He added, "There is still a demand, but we must stop."

Apparently, the car's impending death is tied to the company's new eco-friendly strategy which includes launching eight new electric / plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2015. Additionally, Mitsubishi's "mid-term" business plan failed to make any mention of a redesigned Evo despite rumors that a hybridized replacement was in the works.

Looking for clarification, Jalopnik reached out to a Mitsubishi spokesperson who commented "The current Evo is planned through 2012-2013, but we're not talking about our plans after that." The statement is pretty vague, but it's not very reassuring for Evo fans.
