The 2012 Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster won't be unveiled until the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but our spies have snapped several new pictures of the convertible supercar.

Caught outside of Stuttgart, the minimally camouflaged prototype reveals the car will feature a tight-fitting soft top and a glass rear window. While it will lose the gullwing doors, there's little doubt the roadster will be a real head turner when it debuts in September.

Like the coupe, the roadster will be powered by a 6.3-liter (6,208cc) V8 engine with 420 kW (571 PS / 563 hp) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. It will be connected to a seven-speed double-clutch transmission, which will enable the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds and hit a top speed of 309 km/h (192 mph).
