Smart USA has announced plans to launch a five-door model in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Details are limited, but the car will be based on the Nissan Micra. As the sketches show, the unnamed model features a small grille, a roof-mounted spoiler, and contrasting silver accents.

According to Smart USA President Jill Lajdziak, "The new vehicle will expand smart USA's product lineup, offering five-seat capacity while maintaining the core principles of efficiency and conservation." This is critical to the brand's success in the United States as sales are in a virtual free fall. In the past few months, sales have consistently totaled less than 700 units.
