OnStar has revealed new details about their updated telematics system.
Designed to focus on responsible connectivity, the system gains "natural voice recognition, Bluetooth phonebook integration, improved navigation, and the ability to work with advanced traffic management / severe weather alert services."
While that sounds pretty boring, the company also developed a new mobile phone app called MyLink. It enables users to view vehicle information and remotely activate traditional key fob functions (remote starting, door locking / unlocking...etc) from their smartphone.
More importantly, OnStar is testing new technologies like audio Facebook updates and voice texting. The Facebook program will read status updates to the driver and allow them to update their status by speaking. Voice texting, on the other hand, reads text messages aloud and gives users the option of sending preset responses.
According to OnStar President Chris Preuss, "These initiatives are all about OnStar's role in keeping drivers and passengers connected and safe. Building on the rock-solid foundation of OnStar's safety and security platform, we were given a clear directive to develop OnStar as one of the chief pillars in defining General Motors' business going forward."
