A few months after a prototype was spotted in the Alps, Volkswagen has officially unveiled the Race Touareg 3.
Based on the Race Touareg 2, the RT3 features revised carbon / Kevlar bodywork, an improved cooling system, a modified grille, and LED-infused headlights. Other goodies include specially-developed BF Goodrich 235/85 R16 tires and three limited slip differentials.
Under the hood, power is provided a twin-turbocharged 2.5-liter TDI engine with 300 PS (221 kW / 296 hp) and 442 lb-ft (599 Nm) of torque. It is connected to an upgraded five-speed sequential gearbox (with a ZF-Sachs three-plate ceramic clutch) which allows the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 6.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 117 mph (188 km/h).
Considering the RT2 won the Dakar Rally in 2009 and 2010, the RT3 will be the vehicle to beat for 2011. As always, stay tuned to WCF to see if the RT3 can come out victorious.
