Motor Trend has finally learned what we reported last April; Maserati is planning to launch an entry-level sedan by 2015.

While details are limited, two variants are planned. The base model will be priced at approximately €55,000 ($69,000) while the high performance version will go for roughly €66,000 ($82,750). Both models will likely ride on a shortened version of the next-generation Quattroporte platform and feature V8 engines.

The base car will compete with the Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5-Series, Jaguar XF, and Audi A6. Likewise, the top-of-the-line model will battle the E63 AMG, M5, XF-R, and S6.

Before the entry-level model is launched, Maserati will unveil a redesigned Quattroporte in 2013. It will be cheaper than the current car with a base price starting somewhere in the neighborhood of €86,000 ($108,000) - a nearly €4,500 ($5,650) reduction.
