Citroën Metropolis Concept initial photos and details released [Video]

Citroën has released details about the Metropolis concept, ahead of the Shanghai World Fair.

Designed to "pay homage to China's extraordinary development," the Metropolis looks like a larger, more elegant GQ concept. It features sleek headlights, a concave rear window, and 'Pearl Silk' paint (which changes color depending on lighting conditions).

As a plug-in hybrid, the Metropolis boasts a 272 PS (200 kW / 268 bhp) 2.0-liter V6 petrol engine and an electric motor that produces 55 PS (40 kW / 54 bhp) to 95 PS (70 kW / 94 bhp). At low speeds, the car is powered exclusively by the electric motor. During typical commuting, the petrol engine runs the show. When more power is needed, the electric motor and petrol engine work together to provide a combined 460 PS (345 kW / 454 hp) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque. Despite being a true powerhouse, the Metropolis has "CO2 emissions of just 70g/km" which is "approximately one fifth that of a conventional engine with equivalent performance."

Other goodies include a Hydractive suspension, four-wheel drive, and an active rear spoiler.

Look for more information to be released next month.
