Dacia will begin operations in the United Kingdom in late 2012. Part of its lineup will include this brand new Duster compact off-roader.

Renault subsidiary Dacia is launching in the UK at the end of 2012. The company has been growing steadily after being bought by Renault in 1999. Over the past five years it has sold an average of 250,000 vehicles per annum. One of its primary UK products will be the brand-new Duster compact SUV which will be manufactured at the Pitesti factory in Romania.

Dacia is billing the Duster as a true off-roader when in 4x4 guise. It has a ground clearance of 210mm, short overhangs, a 30-degree approach angle and a 36-degree departure angle. The front end features wide wheel arches, an imposing front grille and a sump guard. An optional Look Pack adds items like 16-inch aluminium alloy wheels, roof bars and extra-tinted rear glass.

The dashboard is described as clean and uncluttered, functional yet modern inside. Depending on the version several interior areas can be modified with different colours or surface finishes.

Three engines will be available. The one petrol is a 1.6-litre 16V petrol making 82kW (110hp). The two turbo diesels are a 63kW (85hp) and an 82kW (111 PS) version. The two diesels produce from 135g/km in C02 emissions.

The Duster Concept was first unveiled just before its public launch at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. Since then a number of spy shots have appeared, culminating in this 2010 Geneva debut.

Prices will start at €11,900 in Europe while UK prices are estimated at £10,800 based on the current £1.10 exchange rate for the base 4x2 model.
