We have some initial rumors about a new Ford Focus RS or SVT being planned. The story inside.
Ford has confirmed at a pre-Geneva Motor Show event that a new "high-performance" Ford Focus is currently under development. The automaker has said that the car will be sold in several markets across the world, without directly stating that it will be sold in the United States.
Ford's group vice president of Product development, Derrick Kuzak, stated, "Our commitment is to deliver an exciting performance model of the new Focus on a global basis and using a version of our advanced new Ford EcoBoost petrol direct-injection turbo engine. We're not ready to reveal more details yet, but we recognize how important this model will be in the Focus line-up, particularly for customers in Europe."
InsideLine believes the car would receive either of two EcoBoost direct-injection units, including the turbocharged 1.6-liter and the turbocharged 2.0-liter engines each producing 180 PS (132 kW / 178 hp) and 200 PS (147 kW /197 hp) respectively.
The engine with the larger displacement has been announced for the Ford Edge, and will provide that vehicle with at least 230 PS (169 kW / 227 hp). InsideLine theorizes that with a Mazda3 lurking about with 263 PS (193 kW / 259 hp) a possible SVT badged Focus for North America should be in the same neighborhood.
Ford may reveal more information about their plans as the Geneva Motor Show swings into high gear.
