Ford has unveiled the facelifted 2011 Edge at the Chicago Auto Show.

A cousin of the updated 2011 Lincoln MKX, the Edge features modified bumpers, a new grille, and restyled lighting units. The Edge Sport receives a distinctive Tuxedo Black grille, smoked head- and taillights, additional body-color accents, and chrome oval-shaped exhaust tips. Both the SEL and Limited ride on 18-inch wheels (20-inchers are optional), while the Sport boasts massive 22-inchers.

Inside, the cabin is vastly improved with higher quality materials and an improved design. Highlights include the MyFord Touch infotainment system (standard on the Limited and Sport), a chunky steering wheel, and a Volvo-like floating center-console dash display. In the Sport, Ford added 'liquid silver smoke' trim, silver smoke metallic leather seat inserts, aluminum pedals, and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Under the hood, three engines are offered. The 3.5-liter V6 has been outfitted with Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) which increases output to 285 hp and 253 ft-lb of torque (up 20 hp and 3 lb-ft of torque). If that doesn't satisfy your need for speed, the Edge Sport features a 3.7-liter V-6 with 305 horsepower and 280 ft-lb of torque.

Eventually, Ford will introduce a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. While no performance data was released, the company previously stated the engine will produce at least 230 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. It "will deliver on the promise of 15 percent fuel economy improvements versus the Edge's current 3.5-liter V-6 engine."

Other performance tweaks include a retuned suspension (with revised shocks, springs and stabilizer bars), an improved braking system, and a host of new safety technologies (Hill Start Assist, Trailer Sway Control, Hydraulic Brake Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control system with and Collision Warning and Brake Support).

Look for the 2011 Edge to start arriving at dealerships this summer.
