2011 BMW 3-Series Coupe & Convertible Facelifts Revealed

BMW has unveiled the facelifted 3-Series Coupe and Convertible.

Designed to be timeless and elegant, the updated 3-Series features redesigned headlights (with LED corona rings/daytime running lights), modified bumpers, a new hood with wider kidney grilles, LED taillights, and a wider grille.

Inside, the interior is relatively unchanged. Despite this, the cabin is still luxurious with dark burled walnut wood trim (bamboo anthracite, light burl walnut, and aluminum trim are also available), bright metal accents, and ambiance lighting.

Under the hood, the 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six is replaced by BMW's new twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six (dubbed the N55). Boasting 306hp/225kW and 400 Nm of torque (US spec: 300 hp and 300 lb-ft torque), the N55 allows the 335i Coupe to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 sec (0-60 mph in 5.3 sec; 5.5 seconds with the automatic). The Convertible accomplishes the same task in 5.8 seconds (US spec: 5.5 seconds; 5.7 seconds with the automatic), while the all-wheel drive 335i xDrive Coupe (US spec) takes 5.2 seconds (5.3 with the automatic). Both models have a limited top speed of 130 mph, but can achieve 150 mph with the optional Sport Package. In Europe, top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph)

As before, BMW will also offer a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter inline-six with 230 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. While the company declined to release performance specifications, the 328i will likely accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.2/6.8 seconds (Coupe), 6.8/7.0 seconds (xDrive Coupe), and 6.7/7.2 seconds (Convertible).

Regardless of what engine is selected, the optional six-speed Steptronic automatic now features steering wheel-mounted "pull-style" shift paddles.

Also expected for the 2011 3-Series facelift range is the 335is (note the added "s"), a sportier version of the 335i with slightly more power. Unfortunately, BMW has not released any information yet.

The 2011 3-Series will go on sale in the United States and Europe this spring.
