Toyota has updated the 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with a revised variable timing system, which increases output and fuel efficiency.

Toyota has unveiled the facelifted 2010 Auris hatchback, ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show.

If you look closely, you can see redesigned front and rear bumpers, a revised grille, restyled head- and tail lights, a reshaped hood, and updated wheels. Inside, the Auris features additional standard equipment, improved materials, and a new color palette.

More importantly, Toyota has updated the 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with a revised variable timing system which increases output and fuel efficiency. Additionally, all 1.8-liter models equipped with a CVT (continuously variable transmission) will be outfitted with steering-wheel mounted paddle-shifters. A 1.5-liter petrol engine will also be offered.

In Japan, prices will range from 1,622,000 Yen ($18,125 USD / €12,200) to 2,331,000 Yen ($26,050 USD / €17,500).
