At the 2009 Frankfurt International Motor Show SAAB premiered what is said to be its most important model this side of history. The all-new 2010 SAAB 9-5 was exhibited amid controversial times for its ex parent as well as speculation about what life might be like with the new folks.

But SAAB is very optimistic that the 9-5 will herald a new era for the brand and take it to levels never seen before. As the flagship model this car has it all to do to help make that happen.

In terms of looks the word evolution rather than revolution comes to mind. The lines are very much in line with both the brand and the 9-5 itself with a strong Scandinavian body line and a distinctive front end. The rear is somewhat un-SAAB if you will; sloppy, smooth and almost coupe-like. It features LED daytime running lights, a first for SAAB.

The type of arsenal on offer includes a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel with 118kW (160hp) and a 2.8-litre V6 petrol producing 221kW (300hp). Two more engines will be made available soon after the first two are in the market.

Passenger comfort is taken care of via an 8-inch touch screen that controls technologies like the 10GB hard drive, optional rear DVD screens, climate control and others.
