Hybrid Chevrolet Silverado, all 6.0-liter V8 of it, starts its life at a GM factory in December 2008. Dealer deliveries commence in January 2009
Chevrolet Silverado is responding to the pocket-blasting fuel problem faced by millions of American passenger truck drivers, even family car drivers. The new Silverado Hybrid begins production in December and should be in showroom floors by January 2009, at a base price of $38,995, including destination charge of $975. The charge applies to 2WD models with the 1HY package.
Crew cab fans can also celebrate since the Silverado Hybrid is also offered in this body style, as well as a 4WD option. A (332 hp / 247 kW), 6.0-litre V8 gas engine forms the basis of GM's two-mode hybrid system in this case, where electro mode can allow for all-electric driving of up to 30mph (48 km/h). Two-wheel-drive models can realize around 21mpg city driving and 22mpg on the highway, with the 4WD option giving back 20mpg.
Inside the car comforts are not excluded, with leather trim and park assist as added goodies, at a price.
