It can handle going off-road, too.
We all need an extra jolt of energy to get through the day sometimes, and the team at the Rockstar Performance Garage is doing the automotive version of that boost by adding nitrous-injection to a Hyundai Santa Fe. The Rockstar Santa Fe Concept debuts as an off-road take on the crossover at the SEMA Show.
“Our Rockstar Santa Fe Concept is simultaneously all-show and all-go, a non-compromising concept with tremendous capabilities and a confident demeanor to match,” said Nick Ashby, lead developer of the Rockstar concept vehicle, in the model's announcement.
The customized CUV is mostly black but with gray and white camouflage along the bottom edge. Rockstar’s yellow logo adds a pop of color on the rear doors and fenders. It looks a lot tougher than stock, though, thanks to a set of 17-inch bead-lock wheels with 35-inch off-road tires. There’s room to haul extra supplies on the roof rack, and LED light bars keep the rock crawling happening into the night. Inside, a custom leather interior and Kicker audio system keep occupants comfy while off the beaten path.
Rockstar overhauls the suspension with new tie-rods and control arms that make sure the Santa Fe can actually handle off-road terrain. The crew also uses a set of 2.0 King coil-overs in the front and 2.5 King shocks with finned reservoirs in the rear. Six-piston calipers in front and four-piston units in the rear grip a big brake setup that makes sure the CUV can stop quickly if things get out of hand.
Beyond the shot of nitrous oxide, the Rockstar Performance Garage has a few other upgrades for the Santa Fe’s 3.3-liter V6. For example, the team also installs an AEM cold-air intake, Mishimoto cooling system, and Magnaflow exhaust.
Rockstar’s custom Santa Fe won’t be alone at this year’s SEMA Show. Bisimoto will also have one there (above), and its example will boast 1,040 horsepower (776 kilowatts) from a custom biturbo 3.8-liter V6. A six-speed manual will spin the rear wheels, rather than the crossover's usual front- or all-wheel-drive setup.
